Design of historic timber bridge upgrade – Briner Bridge
Details: |
The Briner Bridge is a single span bridge crosses the Upper Coldstream River and is one of six operable Dare truss bridges in Australia and one of only two single-span Dare truss bridges in NSW. CDE undertook the design, detailing and construction support for the Briner Bridge rehabilitation As an historic NSW hardwood timber bridge, it required heavy maintenance and upgrading to allow for faster speeds, multiple lanes of traffic and heavier loads on a significant regional road. Using 19th century components and truss design to maintain it’s historic signficance, CDE designed the bridge as a completely new structure whilst maintaining its historical value and was immediately placed on the NSW Heritage register. This bridge now stands as the example of what was part of Nation building engineering over 100 years ago. |
